About
Alenka Cardenas is an emerging contemporary artist and environmental justice organizer. Her multidisciplinary work specializes in sculpture and ceramics. Her art bridges traditional Mexican craftsmanship with modern Chicanx style and surrealism, using mediums like clay, wax, papier-mâché, plaster casting, and tile. Alenka celebrates Latinx traditions through playful, tactile pieces that invite interaction and cultural dialogue. As a Houston local, she honed her skills at Latinx community markets as an artisan vendor. Her works have been showcased in Houston galleries like Wonderlikewander and Hardy & Nance Studios. In a collaborative studio with other BIPOC artists, Alenka preserves and builds upon her heritage, creating sculptures that enrich the cultural landscape.
